OnShift® Employ Administrator User's Guide
Advertising IDs
Advertising IDs
Advertising IDs are essentially aliases for an Opening. Advertising IDs are enabled for all OnShift clients, but utilizing customized Advertising IDs is optional. Advertising IDs are visible on your company’s Current Opening pages and index only to Indeed.com. You may create several Advertising IDs for a single Opening.
OnShift recommends limiting variations to 2-3 per opening. Otherwise, there is a risk all your job ads will be flagged on third-party job boards for appearing suspicious, “spammy,” or location blasting.
By default, your Employ job board will be set up to show Advertising IDs, but there may be reasons to use the proper Opening. Please direct any questions regarding this or to disable the feature on the Current Openings page to support@onshift.com.
To access Advertising IDs, click on the megaphone icon under the Actions tab on a current opening. When creating a new job opening, the initial advertising ID is automatically generated with the original opening title and location.
The location can be any city and state in the surrounding area of the original location. It does not have to be a predefined location in OnShift Employ.
Select Nationwide if you plan to advertise nationwide or remotely. Checking Nationwide changes the City to Nationwide and the State to United States.
Note: Nationwide locations typically require a paid sponsorship – please reach out to your Indeed Rep for more information.
The title can be different from the Opening title, but should relate.
The Job Description will stay the same as the Opening.
Benefits of Advertising IDs
Advertising IDs are useful for several cases:
You might have an opening that's based out of a small town in between two larger markets. Create a couple advertising IDs showing the job based in the larger markets in an effort to drive more traffic.
The Opening may have a title that doesn't make it clear what the job role is or that spans a couple of usual roles, such as a hybrid sales/marketing position. You can create an advertising ID with a title of “Sales” and one of “Marketing” to attract job seekers in both markets.
You may have an Opening (requisition) that hasn't been filled, but is getting stale. Creating a new advertising ID helps drive fresh traffic.
You can set up your advertising IDs to automatically refresh after a certain number of days (cannot be less than 14 days).
Auto-refresh
All clients have the ability to set auto-refresh on current Openings. Auto-refreshing allows an active Job ID to maintain its true create date. The date refreshes on your Current Openings and to job boards like Indeed (cannot be less than 14 days).
With auto-refresh, you don’t need to clone and close Openings to push out a new opening date.
Auto-refresh also provides more accurate reporting for: time-to-hire, EEO-1 number of openings, Job Requisitions report, etc.
If you do not wish for the opportunity to change dates, simply leave blank or set to 0.
If you are sponsoring paid ads on Indeed, auto-refresh must be set to “0” for the jobs sponsored.
Each time your job refreshes, a new advertising ID number is sent to Indeed. Indeed views this as a new job posting and will drop your paid ad.
Why can’t I set auto-refresh for less than 14 days?
New jobs opening too frequently on job boards is behavior associated with misleading, shady job opportunities or a virus/hacker. The job board vendors can (and will) set job postings to invisible or denied until further investigated.
